Benjamin Rust Obituary

Benjamin Jack "B.J." Rust Jr., 72, passed away Monday, Jan. 11, 2016, at his home. Funeral: 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Greenwood. Memorials: If desired, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in B.J.'s name to the American Cancer Society. B.J. was born Jan. 25, 1943, in Eastland to Benjamin J. "Rusty" Rust and Oleta Rust. In his early childhood, the family moved to Fort Worth where he grew up and graduated from North Side High School in 1961. After college B.J. began a lifetime career in the eye care industry. He took pride in assisting patients with complicated sight issues and recommending visual aids, especially contact lenses. Many of these patients left his office with improved sight, which to B.J. was the primary reason he entered the profession. B.J. was associated with many contact lens organizations. He assisted in teaching contact lens classes with medical and college students across Texas. He loved spending time outdoors with his dogs, Tillie and Mattie, and took pride in watching his pepper plants and fruit trees grow. B.J. went hunting and fishing with friends and family to many different places, from Alaska to Costa Rica. He traveled extensively with family and a group of high school friends, lovingly known as "The Herd." B.J. was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin J. "Rusty" Rust; and brother-in-law, Dr. Larry Moore. Survivors: Loving wife, Trisha; mother, Oleta; sisters, Wanda Moore and Patricia Aston; stepson, Brian Cox and wife, Ashley, and their children, Jackson and Skyler; and several nieces and nephews in addition to many close family friends.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of B.J. He took great care when helping people with their vision issues and there are not many people in his profession I have found that are as caring and professional. He will be greatly missed.

I was one of Mr. Rust's patients. He was a kind man, a professional, a craftsman, with a deep concern for the welfare of those who came to see him. I'll miss him.

Trish, I'm so sorry that the nasty vicious C took BJ so soon in his young life. I had the pleasure of working beside him for 5 years under Dr. Montgomery. I so enjoyed his stories and he always had an opinion when it came to raising my boys and I did truly appreciate it more times then none. He was truly a compassionate man who helped me so much with my sight when I lost my central vision due to my illness. He'll truly be missed.

Love, Veronica Hall

B.J. kept me in fresh contacts for many years in Fort Worth. But far more importantly, he was a patient and kind addition to our family.

Trish, you and BJ mean so much to me. He had open arms to me when I moved to Oklahoma but kept working in Tx with you. He was so kind and so welcoming. I remember us all sitting on the back patio visiting ands drinking a glass of wine. I'm so sad for you. Yall had the best loving relationship. I'm just so shocked and sad. I LOVE YOU Trish and even though I moved to Oklahoma both you and BJ have always been in my heart and thoughts. I well try to come see you soon. Love, Connie (Messer) Kramer

I've known B J since November 1976 when I called on him as a contact lens representative. In 2004 he fitted me in contacts becoming more of a friend & mentor. Our deepest sympathy, Carter & Helen Helm, Point Blank, Tx.

BJ was the best brother anyone could ever hope for. He was a great uncle to my daughters, and a wonderful son who took such good care of our mother. He was and always will be loved greatly by all of us, and we will miss him every day, but he will always be in our hearts. RIP sweet brother.
