Sam was a wonderful man that Carol and I enjoyed knowing very much the past ten years in Granbury. Sam was related to my Campbell cousins in Matador, Texas, spending time there in my hometown visiting the R. E. Campbell Sr. Family. Mrs. R. E. Campbell Jr. (Lucretia Estes) was my mother Opal's sister. Carol and I always enjoyed visiting with Sam (and Mary) about our Matador and Texas Tech connections. He will be greatly missed. Our prayers are with Mary and her and Sam's families.

Dr. Curl was Dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources during a critically important period of the College's development, and was dean when I was a student and a student assistant in the office. He would listen intently to my concerns and respond thoughtfully the same as he would a professor or administrator. He always remembered who I was when I met him in the building or on the street. His fundamental good nature, kindness and respect for all people never changed. He was calm, prudent and unflappable. I am honored to have known him. His legacy lives on in many places, but especially Texas Tech. We join his family in grieving the loss, but celebrate his remarkable achievements and contributions to agriculture and to the many students who benefited from his leadership.

We were good friends with the Curl's during their time in Stillwater. I enjoyed fishing with Sam on several occasions. Sam was a good man and a great dean at OSU. I know he loved the Red Raiders but he also loved the Cowboys. We send our sympathy to Mary and the family.

Dr. Sam and his wonderful wife, Mary, were wonderful inspirations to me while they were at Oklaoma State. Mary worked with us in the veterinary college and provided professional guidance in developing some of our programs. Sam and Mary were always there with a smile. My condolences to the family and best wishes to Mary for the future.

My heart goes out to your family. I will always remember Sam gently & lovingly guiding little girls through the halls, pews & Sunday school classes of 1st Christian Church... I was fortunate, indeed, to be one of them. His gentle ways and kind words soothed on so many occasions. He was a blessing. Jane, the "pooh" quote hit the mark. He will always be there. Julie, I can still hear him saying "Well, My Word!" ....while asking you to quit climbing on the furniture....
May a warm quilt of comfort be about your shoulders during this time.
Love each of you all so dearly. With great compassion & understanding, Callie
