Manuel Sokol

Sokol Manuel "Mal" Sokol, who celebrated his 90th birthday earlier this month with all of his loving children and adoring grandchildren, passed away after a short illness on March 29, 2013. After graduating from East High School and serving his country during WWII (earning a Purple Heart), Mal entered the family insurance business with his father and four brothers. Preceded in death by parents Nathan and Rose Sokol and brothers Joseph, Julius and Simon Sokol. Survived by older brother, Saul Sokol; children, Lori (Ralph) Bejar of San Juan, Puerto Rico and Brad (Lauren) Sokol of Miami, FL; and grandchildren, Stephanie, Dani and Joel Bejar and Ali, Erica and Andrew Sokol. Also survived by many nieces and nephews who always looked forward to seeing Uncle Mal, as well as a host of friends who appreciated his wonderful sense of humor. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 31 at EPSTEIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3232 E. Main St. with Rabbi Sharon Mars officiating. Burial will follow at New Agudas Achim Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the home of Jay and Kathy Sokol following the service on Sunday.
