Charles P. McCabe

McCabe Charles P. "Chuck" McCabe, age 93, of Columbus, OH, died October 2, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Born in New Lexington, OH to the late Arthur W. and Viola (Downey) McCabe. Preceded in death by wife of 48 years, Loree J. (Markley), brother Harold McCabe, grandson Michael Bumster, daughter-in-law Cecilia McCabe. Survived by children and their children, Tim McCabe, Gabriela and Ian, Mary (Hank) O'Connor, Ryan and Megan, Kate (Mike) Bumster, Shana (Matt), Jim McCabe, Mike (Rita) McCabe, Collin (Ann) and Kevin, Patty (Bob) Fry, Tina and Jessica, Dan (Lori) McCabe, Nicholas and Jennifer (David); sister, Barbara Lennon; many dear nieces and nephews and their families. Chuck was a graduate of Saint Mary's South High School and Elgin National Watch College; Army veteran and served his country with pride and dignity in WWII - Mediterranean Theatre. After the war, he returned to central Ohio where he met and married the love of his life, Loree "Mark" Markley. During this time he managed to help raise seven children while co-founding the popular "University Jewelers" (1945-1986) located on OSU campus at 15th and High. During this thriving time in business, he was joined by son, Jim and together they supplied the OSU sororities and fraternities with their numerous awards and pins. Chuck was a member of the University Area Commission, an honorary member of Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity and a loyal member of the Clan MacGregor Club of Glasgow, Scotland. An avid outdoorsman for his entire life, he spent countless hours with family and friends gardening, hunting, fishing and boating at Lake Erie. He was a long time member of Saint Michael Catholic Church where he served as usher for many years. His profound pride in his Scot-Irish heritage was surpassed only by his love of God, country and family. A loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother, he was loved and cherished by all and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
