Frederick L. Shaner

Shaner Frederick L. Shaner, born November 28, 1925, passed away at his home in Tennessee on March 5, 2014. Fred was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 64 years, Evelyn (Kibler) Shaner, sisters Margaret Beran and Orlena Stoltz, brother John Shaner, their parents Fred and Mary and granddaughter Elizabeth Finn. An alumni of Bucyrus H. S., Fred served his country in the United States Air Force from 1944 to 1946. Following his military career, Fred graduated from the Ohio State University with a degree in Pharmacology. Fred was a lifetime member of the State of Ohio Pharmacy Assoc., and was installed as the 77th President of Toledo Academy of Pharmacy in 1970. An avid golfer and skilled craftsman, Fred was an active contributor to the Golden Hobby Shop, a non-profit consignment shop for Ohio senior citizens' handcrafted items. Fred married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn A. Kibler, on August 15th, 1947, and the couple shared a great love of the Ohio State Buckeyes. A dutiful husband and father, Frederick is survived by his loving children, daughter, Susan (Paul) Finn; sons, James (Pamela) Shaner and David (Sandra) Shaner; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many wonderful friends and loved ones. Family will receive friends at 9 a.m. Monday, March 10 at St. Peter's Church, 6899 Smoky Row Rd., Columbus, OH 43235, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Interment in Oakwood Cemetery, Bucyrus, OH will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted to construct a handicapped ramp honoring Fred and Evelyn at the group home Morristown, TN, where the Shaners received wonderful care prior to their journey home to be with God.
