Frederick Ray "Fred" Ricketts

Ricketts Frederick Ray "Fred" Ricketts, age 84, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 16, 2013. Fred was born in New Philadelphia, Ohio to the late Walter C. and Flossie Ryan Ricketts Howey and was preceded in death by an infant sister and his step-father Hugh Howey. Even as a child, many looked to Fred for his leadership skills and his determination to accomplish much. By his 18th birthday, he had achieved the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts. Fred also served in the US Navy, and graduated from Bowling Green State University, where he was an active member of Alpha Tau Omega. Immediately after graduation, Fred decided to give back to the Boy Scouts by working as a Boy Scout executive at Schiff Scout Reservation in New Jersey.Fred was retired from Columbus Public Schools as Director of Career and Vocational Education, where he was responsible for the development of four career centers and twelve high school additions. He also served as the Principal of several Columbus Public Schools. Known as a man who loved people and made friends easily, Fred was a devout member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, an active member of the Upper Arlington Rotary, Assistant Executive Director of Ohio Retired Teachers Association (RTA), and a Franklin County RTA Trustee. In his spare time, Fred enjoyed putting his Industrial Arts teaching background to use on woodworking projects, creating beautiful items that were treasured by family, friends, and even total strangers. A caring and nurturing husband and father, Fred will be missed by his wife of 60 years, Marjorie Ann (Davis) Ricketts; children, Ellen Wallace, Brenda (Bruce) Rizzo, Mark (Julie) Ricketts; grandchildren, Perry and Rachel Wallace, Breanne (Remi) Rizzo Antonsen, Brigette and Bryce Rizzo, Ryan, Kyle (Tricia) and Colleen Ricketts; and step-brother, Hugh (Linda) Howey and family. Funeral Service will be held at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 1735 Bethel Rd., Columbus, 43220 Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 11 a.m, where family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to the time of service. Additional visitation will be held Friday, 6-7:30 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd. Graveside service and interment 2:30 p.m., at Guernsey Memory Gardens, Cambridge, Oh.
