Helen V. Bond

BOND Helen V. Bond, age 94, of Mount Vernon and former Galena resident and teacher passed away Friday, January 29, 2010 at Country Club Retirement Campus in Mount Vernon. She was born on August 4, 1915 in Lost Creek, WV to the late Stephen and Jessie (Stout) Kennedy. At the age of 52, she earned a Bachelors of Arts Degree from Otterbein College. A first grade teacher at Galena Elementary for 13 years and a principal for 12 years, she treasured notes and letters from family and friends. She was a charter member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Columbus, where she served in many church capacities. Helen was devoted to her family. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, reading, singing, and entertaining friends. She helped with Care Net Pregnancy Center in Mount Vernon and quilted more than 1000 quilts for newborns at Grady Memorial Hospital. Survived by her husband, Ernest F. Bond, whom she married February 24, 1939 at her parents' farm in Lost Creek, WV; son, Richard (Susan) Bond of Palmetto, FL; daughters, Karen (Dick) Rogers of Jane Lew, WV, Doris (Harry) Kennedy of Mount Vernon, Rebecca (Darwin) Van Horn of Centerburg; 9 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 12 step great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Wilda Kennedy, Elaine Kennedy, Leloa Bond; brother-in-law, Leland W. (Lettie) Bond. Preceded in death by brothers Gene and Frank Kennedy, sisters Elizabeth Kennedy, Evaleen Bond, Ruth Smith, Kathryn James. Friends may call Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at the DEVORE-SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, SR's 3 at 61 in Sunbury. Services will be held Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at the Lost Creek Seventh Day Baptist Church in Lost Creek, WV and burial will follow there in the Brick Church Cemetery.
