Joan Lathouse

Lathouse Joan Lathouse, 86, of Columbus, entered into rest Wednesday, April 10, 2013. She was born September 29, 1926 in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Homer and Ordie Lathouse. She was a 1948 graduate of Miami University of Ohio. Joan was a world renowned chemist beginning her career at Seagram then joining Battelle Memorial Institute in 1952. She was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Portsmouth, life member of Theta Epsilon; and became a 50 year member of the American Chemical Society in 1999. Joan, who was known as "Aunt Jo", was a true outdoors woman who enjoyed hiking in the Adirondacks, wildlife, birds (especially cardinals), and was a wonderful photographer. She was an avid collector of cast iron banks and antiques. She loved Christmas, making candy, and trains. Joan was very giving and donated to food banks on a regular basis. In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her life-long friend, Janis Frye. Survived by her cousins, Eleanor Mast Smith and her son, Edward Johnson, Lou Ann Mast (Cecil) Garringer, and their sons, Terry and Bob Garringer, Marjorie Downs Warner, Katherine McKinley, Vicky McKinley (Ruth Lipschitz), and Bruce McKinley; nieces and nephews, Kendyl Frye, Mary Platz, Kirtlund (Diane) Frye, and their children, Zachary and Hunter. Family will receive friends Sunday, April 28, 2013 from 3-5 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Columbus, OH. No services will be held.
