John E. "Jack" McCarty

McCarty John E. "Jack" McCarty, age 90, passed away Monday, June 9, 2014. He graduated from Martins Ferry High School, was a U.S. Navy WWII Veteran serving on the USS Benson, retired Lieutenant with the Columbus Fire Department, and was the past commander of the Firefighters VFW Post #3426. He loved the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, and playing golf at Willow Run. Jack was a devoted family man that loved them above all else and enjoyed being together for a family dinner. He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Jane, and his sister Carol Reithmiller. He is survived by his daughters, Holly (Bill) Rockwell, Jacqueline (Doug) Nyman, and MariBeth (Steve) McKee; son Mark (Karen) McCarty; grandchildren, Sandi, Brian, Jason, Matthew, Brittani, Dominic, Nicole, Anthony, Ariel, and Cierra; several great-grandchildren; and many of his firefighter brothers. His family will receive friends Thursday from 5-8 p.m. and Friday from 10-11 a.m. at the COTNER FUNERAL HOME, 7369 E. Main St., Reynoldsburg, where his service will be Friday at 11 a.m. His interment will follow at Glen Rest Memorial Estate.
