Margaret Mary Gentis(1922 - 2014)

Gentis Margaret Mary Gentis, age 91, mother, grandmother, friend and artist, died peacefully Friday, March 7, 2014 at First Community Village, Columbus, Ohio. Margaret (Marge to her friends) was born on a farm near Dowagiac Michigan on September 21, 1922 to Mary Cameron and Ralph Thomas Brower. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Nelson Richard Gentis and her sister Barbara Dolson. She is survived by her brother, Ralph Thomas (Marilyn) Brower, Jr., Pekin, IL ; daughters, Linda Larrimer, Columbus, and Mary Ann Gowing, Centralia, WA; grandchildren, Audrey (Dave Wooster), Columbus, Emily (Jeffrey) Savas, New York, NY, Amanda Larrimer, Denver, CO, Bradley Gowing, Spokane, WA, and Graham Gowing, Chehalis, WA; great- grandchildren, Abraham and Phoebe Wooster, Columbus. Margaret grew up in South Bend and Fort Wayne, Indiana where she was a graduate of South Side High School and Fort Wayne Art School. On September 7, 1944 she married Nelson Richard Gentis in Fort Wayne. Marge's creative energy and enthusiasm for life will be missed. She made her career in the arts working in graphic design and as an art teacher. After her retirement in 1988 she was a dedicated volunteer. She gave many hours of service to Southminster Presbyterian Church (food pantry, classroom murals, gardening, garage sale), Goodwill Industries of Dayton (modeling their historical costume collection), City of Centerville (Walton House Museum, city scrapbooks) and was named Volunteer of the Year by the City of Centerville in 2000. She loved the outdoors and as a participant in Volkssporting walked in events in all 50 states. A memorial service will be held in Dayton on Thursday, March 13 at 3 p.m. at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 7001 Far Hills Avenue, Dayton, OH 45459. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 14 from 3 to 5 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus.
