Marion Buchanan Obituary

BUCHANAN Marion Kathleen "Kay" Buchanan departed this world on October 19, 2012 in Lancaster, CA. She was formerly from Columbus, OH. She was born January 29, 1938 in Ashtabula, OH. She graduated from the Andrews School for Girls in Willoughby, OH before attending The Ohio State University. She retired as a public employee of the State of Ohio. She was a significant activist in the civil rights movement, a member of Quartz Hill Women's Club, and enjoyed arts and music; especially jazz and blues. Gourmet cooking and entertaining were especially her delight. She is fondly remembered for her intelligent wit and her ability to recall and recount memories so vividly and with such accuracy. She is survived by her daughter, Jonet Leighton (granddaughters, Emily and Elizabeth) of CA; brother, William Ermatinger of Parkton, MD; local nephew and niece, Mark and Bronwyn Ginty, Gahanna, OH and many other cherished nieces, nephews and their children and children's children. In honor of her memory, family asks that you make memorial donations to CHA Animal Shelter, 3765 Corporate Dr., Columbus, OH 43231 or your local cat shelter, as Marion loved cats and they brought much comfort and joy to her life. Her family will celebrate her life with private interment of her remains at Cavalry Cemetery in Sandusky, Ohio where she will rest in peace with her mother and near her darling sister.

I certainly miss talking with Aunt Marion and having her support. She was a great listener and yes could have her own opinions that she staunchly defended, but she was smart and well read and witty and funny! She could be a great confidant and she loved me and I loved her. I miss her.

It is with much grief that I learned of Kay's death. I knew her for the last 11 years and spoke with her often after she moved to California. I will sorely miss our talks where she shared with me her many thoughts and opinions about the world, and her astute and wise advice. I will miss her so very much.

To the family: Please accept my sincere condolences. I pray that you comforted by God in your time of grief. You will be in my thoughts and prayers
