BENTLEY Mary Alice Bentley, age 88, passed away November 19, 2012 at Westminster Thurber in Columbus, OH. Married to Joseph Lewis Southern for 28 years then to Robert Bentley for 22 years. Preceded in death by both. Also preceded in death by parents Willard Roller and Ethel Bryers Roller. Survived by children, Christine Moody of Bend Oregon, Laura Southern (Bryan Loveless), Todd Southern (Sandie) of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Tame' Wicker (James), Jenefer Savage (Brian), Paul Clark (Edna), Nathaniel Southern, Noah Southern, and Hannah Southern; nine great-grandchildren; step-children, Debbie Allen (Rick), Jennifer Evans (Mike), Craig Bentley (Sharon), Mark Bentley (Sandy); numerous step- grandchildren and great-grandchildren; cousin, Jeff Fisher of Nashville, Tenn. She was very involved in music her entire life. She taught private piano lessons for over 60 years. Was the organist and choir director at St. Marks Episcopal Church and Hilliard Presbyterian Church. She was also the organist at Maple Grove United Methodist Church. She continued to play until the day of her death. Playing for Westminster Thurber and the Christian Scientist Second Church. She started her music career at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Maryland and continued her studies with Dr. Wilbur Held and George Haddad at The Ohio State University
. She was also an accomplished self-taught artist who enjoyed water colors, sculpting, sewing and quilting. She was a lover of nature and supported several environmental causes and volunteered at Inniswood Gardens for several years.
