Pamela Sue Kelly

Kelly Pamela Sue Kelly passed away, October 4, 2013. Born March 19, 1945, daughter of the late Henry and Doris Melragon. Preceded in death by brother Gilbert Melragon II. Graduate of St. Mary of the Springs Academy and the Ohio State University, College of Education. Decorated, revered and honored, she was a teacher retiring from Columbus Public Schools after years of classroom time; her life's work as an advocate in raising and educating children. She began her career at the Maumee Boys Youth Camp. Transitioning into motherhood to raise three brilliant and good-looking children, she returned to the classroom in a suburban setting (including the Bagel Shop at Worthington High School) but ended her career in the inner city to serve the community's more challenging student body. She tenured a 24 year career in education. Pam took pride in: being able outrunning a neighbor's child in a friendly street sprint, growing mutantly large impatients and begonias, knowing the lyrics to Boyz to Men songs, taking over the Island and planting it every year with flowers for the neighbors, being avid collector of holiday decorations, canning her own tomatoes, being a semi-professional youth baseball score keeper and crowd energizer, making the best potato salad in the Midwest, being a vociferous OSU basketball fan and making enough Christmas cookies to feed the entire neighborhood and various doctor's offices in the week before Christmas. She was an exemplary grandmother, passing on family secrets of sewing, gardening and cookie baking, supporting the athletic and musical endeavors of all her grandchildren. Never one to sit still for more than a minute, she was a community volunteer in Church and School, adult literacy tutor, Sharon Memorial Board Member, Member of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 239, member of the St. Mary of the Spring Alumnae Association and an advocate for community beautification. Survived by her husband of 46 years, David; daughter, Megan Kelly of Worthington, OH; son, Ryan (Leslie) of Reynoldsburg, OH; and son, Darren (Sara) of Lafayette, California; brothers, Patrick (Sally) Melragon of Columbus, OH and Mickey (Theresa) Melragon, of Tepic, Mexico; grandchildren, Makoyi Watson, Alexander Kelly, and Maya Kelly of Lafayette, CA and Ryan Patrick Kelly, Jr. and Caroline Kelly, of Reynoldsburg, OH. Also survived by many friends, neighbors, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces. The family is grateful to Pam's team of doctors who kept her healthy and in the fight all these years; to her friends, neighbors and the Sisters of Charity for their unfailing support and comfort throughout. Family will receive friends on TUESDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2013 from 5 - 8 p.m. at the RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 N. High Street Worthington, Ohio 43085.
