Pearl A. Hershberger

Hershberger Pearl A. Hershberger, 83, passed away on February 6, 2013, following complications from pneumonia. Pearl was born in 1929 to Elizabeth (Maharg) and William H. Sturman in Newark, Ohio where she spent her childhood. She attended Hartzler Elementary, Central Junior High, Kirkersville School, and Newark High School, where her favorite extracurricular activities included roller skating and horseback riding. She graduated in 1947. She married her high school Sweetheart, John W. Hershberger, after he returned from serving in the Navy and they moved to Grove City, Ohio to raise a family. Pearl received her cosmetology license in the mid-1960's, and she had a successful career as a hairdresser for many years, owning and managing the Broadway Beauty Salon in downtown Grove City until health issues forced her retirement. After John's passing in 1985, Pearl continued to reside in Grove City with her son Lee. With Lee's passing in 2012, Pearl moved to Maineville, Ohio to reside with her daughter, Valerie Hershberger. Pearl was a talented porcelain painter and master seamstress. She had a lifelong love of reading and jigsaw puzzles. She was a long-time supporter of Native American charities. She is survived by daughter, Valerie Hershberger (Ron Cowgill) of Maineville; daughter, Melodie Hershberger of Colorado; sister, Betty Zwayer of Columbus; grandchildren, Kim Cowgill and Kent (Lisa) Cowgill; and great-grandchildren, Ann-Frances, Ruth, Matthew, and Nora Cowgill. She was preceded in death by husband John, son Lee, brother Daniel Sturman and son-in-law Michael Baker. Family will receive friends Friday, February 15, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at the SCHOEDINGER GROVE CITY CHAPEL, 3920 Broadway, Grove City, OH 43123 where funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, with Rev. Dr. Jerry W. Pitman officiating. Interment Concord Cemetery.
