Richard Allen Utz(1952 - 2013)

Utz Richard Allen Utz, age 60, of Columbus, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at home under hospice care. He was born on November 26, 1952 in Bucyrus, Ohio. He graduated from Buckeye Central High School in New Washington, Ohio and twice from The Ohio State University with a B.A. in Political Science and J.D. following. His chosen field of specialty was Real Property Law which he practiced for 36 years holding positions in several different title companies including that of president. He shared his knowledge of title insurance as a speaker at seminars and professional meetings. One of his special interests was classic muscle cars most recently owning an award-winning 1970 Chevelle SS. Sports was both an interest and a hobby. He enjoyed softball from high school on and captained a team in the local lawyers' league for years. Dick was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, and especially the Ohio State Buckeyes. He loved animals and always had time to give them affection. He was preceded in death by infant son, Grant Allen and father, John Paul Utz. He cherished his children, Jennifer, Matthew, Carey and Megan. He is also survived by his wife of 35 years, Cindy (Whyde); mother, Dorothy (Dunbar); sister, Nancy; and brothers, David (Anne) and Jon (Lori) and their children. A special thank you to the staff of 10 South James for their care. Family will receive friends on Sunday, September 15, 2013 from 2-5 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, Ohio 43221. Private interment will take place at a later date.
