Richard R. Lanese

LANESE Richard R. Lanese, 84 of Worthington, died Sunday, December 23, 2012. He was born July 22, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio. A three sport letterman at Shore High School in Euclid OH, he was elected to the Sports Hall of Fame, class of 1946. After serving in the US Marine corps, Dick received his PhD in psychology from The Ohio State University. Dick was a full professor at The Ohio State University, in the Department of Preventive Medicine, at the College of Medicine. His field was epidemiology and public health. He retired as Professor Emeritus. During his tenure he was President of The Ohio State Faculty Club, President of The Ohio State University Senate, President of The Ohio State University Athletic Council. After retiring, Dick was active in his book club and poker club with his long time friends from college. Dick was a loving husband and father; always supportive of his sons. He was an honest and forgiving man. He was an avid sports fan and an enthusiastic supporter of OSU and Cleveland teams. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Ida (Caccavale) Lanese, and sister Geraldine Charms. Dick will be missed by his loving wife of 59 years, Shirley; and sons, Phillip Lanese of Worthington and David (Anya Bourg) Lanese of New York City; brother, Lewis (Anita) Lanese of Norwalk Connecticut. A memorial to celebrate his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dick's memory to Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research.
