Robert Edward Preissle

Preissle Robert Edward Preissle 8-5-1951 to 7-10-2014. Rob was born in Bennington, Vermont, to Frank Paul Preissle IIIand Goldie Etude Thompson Preissle, who both preceded him in death. Rob graduated from Rocky River High School (OH) in 1969. He attended Northwestern University and St. Olaf College before graduating from the Ohio State University in English with a secondary teaching certificate. A natural teacher, Rob began his career teaching high school English and advising the school paper in Stamford, Connecticut. When he moved to Columbus to attend what is now known as the Moritz College of Law at OSU, he began teaching at Bell & Howell's Ohio Institute of Technology, later to become DeVry University. Rob received an MA in Comparative Studies and a PhD in English from OSU, focusing on film studies and modern literature. For several years he taught as a Senior Professor at DeVry and as an adjunct at OSU. His publications focused onfilm adaptations of modernist writers, including Virginia Woolf, Henry James and Oscar Wilde. He loved being in the classroom and had high expectations of his students, both the traditional university student and the working adult returning for a degree. Rob married his best friend, Mary Ann Brouillette, on an icy and stormy January day in 1997 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon. They loved living in Clintonville, near Whetstone Park, where they walked their beloved dog Moose and listened to the Cleveland Indians ball games on the radio on quiet summer evenings. Another favorite pastime was planning meals for and entertaining small groups of friends and family. Rob is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his sister and brother-in-law, Jude Preissle and Mark Toomey; his brother and sister-in-law, Frank IV and Donna Preissle; Frank's children and their spouses, including Frankie V and Shawn Preissle, Jacquie and Robert Mata, and Patty and Mike Horvath; and his grand nieces and nephews and new great grand-niece. He is also survived by the "St. Louis Thompson cousins," whom he always enjoyed visiting. Rob is also survived by Mary Ann's family, including his mother-in-law, Betty Brouillette, whom he loved as a second mother; his sister-in-law, Carol Brouillette; his brother-in-law, Bob Brouillette; and Bob's wife, Carole Stolte; his sister-in-law, Susan Brouillette and her husband, Tom Hill, and their children Elizabeth and Ben.
