Robert L. Eckhardt

Eckhardt Robert L. "Bobby" Eckhardt, passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, OH. Born on May 27, 1948 in Norwalk, OH to Robert and Eleanor (Lawrence) Eckhardt. Bobby was preceded in death by his beloved parents, and devoted brother-in-law Joseph J. Silver. He is survived by his sister, Trudy Silver; niece, Elizabeth Taylor; nephew, Scott Bowers; great nephew, Bradley Taylor; and cousins. Bobby was employed for over forty years in adult sheltered workshops, beginning with the Christie Lane Adult Sheltered Workshop in Norwalk, OH, the first program of its kind in Norwalk. Through Christie Lane, Bobby participated in the Boy Scouts. Bobby moved to Columbus, OH in 1987, where he resided with his sister and brother-in-law. Over the next 25 years, Bobby worked at ARC North Adult Sheltered Workshop. In 1994, Bobby moved to his own residence, a home he grew to love, where he resided until his passing. Bobby enjoyed a broad range of music, played an enthusiastic harmonica, bowled weekly, and loved being with members of his family. Bobby was blessed with a number of wonderful caregivers over the years. Three people who were particularly treasured by Bobby over the many years are caregiver Charles Lidala of the Association for The Developmentally Disabled, and workshop specialists Margie Parkman and Mariann Blair of ARC North. Bobby lived a long, varied, and active life and he will be missed by those who came to know him. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 4 p.m. at Indianola Presbyterian Church, 1970 Waldeck Ave., Columbus, OH 43201.
