Rodger H. Evans

Evans Rodger H. Evans, age 80, of Columbus, Ohio, died Monday, May 12, 2014. He is preceded in death by his parents Kermit and Fern Evans, and by his loving wife Shirley Evans. Rodger and Shirley had been married for 54 years at the time of her death in 2007. He is survived by his children, Cindy (Herb) Utter and Mark (Becky) Evans. Rodger is the beloved grandfather of Carly (Bryan) Buckalew, Erick Evans, Christopher Utter, and Corey Utter. He is also survived by his sisters, Betty (Bill) Pabst and Vickie Evans; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be deeply missed by his family. Rodger graduated from West High School in Columbus, Ohio in June, 1951. He was then drafted into the Army, and trained at Fort Knox, Kentucky and Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was a tank commander in Germany. Upon his return to the U.S., Rodger began his life-long career at Ohio Bell Telephone Company, and after retirement worked for UNITS at The Ohio State University. He loved to play baseball in his younger days and golf as he grew older. He loved Cleveland Browns football. He and his wife Shirley enjoyed life-long friendships with many dear friends. Rodger was a member of Glenwood United Methodist Church. Rodger's family would like to thank the caring and dedicated health care professionals at Friendship Village of Dublin for providing excellent, loving care for Rodger. Family will receive friends at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Upper Arlington on Sunday, May 18, from 2-5 p.m., where funeral service will be held 10 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2014.
