Ruby D. Comer

COMER Ruby D. Comer, 95, passed on Monday, November 5, 2012 in Goose Creek, SC. A graduate of The Ohio State University and Xavier University, she taught in the Columbus City Schools for many years and also worked with special needs adults in the community. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church over 50 years and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority for nearly 60 years. Predeceased by husband James "Doug" Comer, parents John and Virginia Thompson, and four siblings. Survived by children, Charles Douglas Comer of Kalamazoo, MI, Barbara J. Clarke of Marietta, GA, and Beverly Ann Hargrow of Goose Creek, SC; grandchildren, Deborah Forbes-Adams, Dawn Clarke-Hinton, Cristina Comer, all of Marietta, GA; James D. Hargrow of Waimanalo, HI, and Cheryl Darden-Comer of Charlotte, NC; sister, Virginia (Eugene) Mathias of Shaker Heights, OH; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Celebration of Life 10 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 720 Mt. Vernon Ave. Pastor Otha Gilyard, officiating. Mrs. Comer will lie in state Friday after 4 p.m., in the chapel of GARY MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 867 S. James Rd., where the family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Interment Kingwood Memorial Park.
