Russell L. Adams(1940 - 2014)

Adams Russell L. Adams, Sergeant First Class, US Army (Retired), age 73, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2014 at Zusman Hospice in Bexley, where his wife Linda (Hoffer) was able to love him, tend to him and tell him "goodbye". Russ was born at home on the family farm in Jackson Cty. OH on November 6, 1940 to the late Daniel and Emma (Smeltzer) Adams. Also preceded in death by his brothers Jack, Leroy, Cecil, Allen and Richard and sisters Sybil, Peggy and Karen. He is survived by his first wife (and mother of his three children), Carol (Kibbler); sons, Russell (Jameile) Adams II, Robert (Lisa) Adams; and daughter, Emily Jo Adams; grandchildren, Curtis, Heather, Brenton, Kadie, Morgan, Zackery, Kayla, Amber and Alley. Also survived by his older brother, Marvin and his twin brother, Robert; and 24 nieces and nephews and too many great and great-great nieces and nephews to count. Russ loved his family and his extended family and he loved his country. He especially loved the US Army where he had the opportunity to serve and represent his country with assignments in France, Korea and Germany as well as many locations throughout the U.S. He also proudly fought in the Vietnam War with the 11th Armored Calvary Regiment commanded by Colonel George S. Patton III, grandson of the famous WWII general. After retiring from the Army he worked in the Sales & Use Tax Div. of the Ohio Department of Taxation (DOT) as a Tax Commissioner's Agent. While at DOT, he attended evening and weekend classes at Franklin University and earned his Associate of Science with major in Business Admin (1981) and a BS in Public Mgmt (1985). He retired from DOT in 2003 after 25 years of dedicated service. Funeral arrangements by SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, where visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday, March 15 and 12Noon-1 p.m. on Sunday, March 16. A eulogy will be given at the funeral home following visitation (1 p.m.) by Russ' twin brother, Robert.
