Sandra Jean (Rogers) Snide

Snide (Rogers) Sandra Jean (Rogers) Snide, 64, of Columbus, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 8, 2013. Sandy was born to the late Russell and Mildred Rogers, May 18, 1948, in Pittsburgh, PA. She graduated from Columbus North High School and received a BS and MA in Education from The Ohio State University. For 31 years she served as an elementary school teacher and Program Coordinator for the Columbus Public Schools. Sandy was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students, was recognized as the Teacher of the Year and was one of the district's first Reading Recovery Program teachers. She was a lifelong member of the NEA, OEA and CEA. On August 15, 1984, she married Richard "Dick" Snide. Together they enjoyed many happy years filled with regular trips to Williamsburg (their favorite place to visit), New York City and to the beach, including a visit to Hawaii. Sandy loved sports and could recite the stats of any Reds players if requested. She and Dick also shared a love for Broadway musicals and the Columbus Symphony. In 1997 Sandy survived a massive brain tumor. A few years later, she and Dick retired and together they fought every day for Sandy's recovery. Though it was a long and difficult journey, Sandy never once complained. Sandy is survived by her husband, Dick; sister, Joyce (Jay) Schoedinger; four step-children, Susan (John) Guzzo of Newnan, GA, Rick (Cindy) Snide of Westerville, Cynthia (Bill) Evans of Massanutten, VA, and Thomas (Lisa) Snide of Dublin. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Maple Grove UMC Youth Fund at www.maplegroveumc.org or to Nationwide Children's Hospital at www.nationwidechildrens.org. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Maple Grove UMC, 7 W. Henderson Rd., Columbus, OH 43214, where the family will greet friends prior from 9-11 a.m. Interment at Union Cemetery.
