Father William Lynn S.J.

LYNN Father William Lynn, S.J., died December 25, 2012 at the Jesuit Center in Wernersville, PA. Father Lynn was born in Rocky Mountain, NC on December 25, 1922. He was a son of the late William and Ann (Quigley) Lynn. He entered the Society of Jesus at Wernersville on July 30, 1941, and was ordained a priest at Woodstock College, Woodstock, MD on June 20, 1954. He spent his entire priesthood as a professor of theology training seminarians to be priests. In 1959 he was one of the first missionaries of the Maryland Province to be assigned to teach seminarians in Rangoon, Burma until all seminarians were expelled by the government in 1966. Father was then missioned to Daegun College, Korea. In 1971 Father Lynn returned to the United States and taught theology at St. Joseph University in Philadelphia, St. Vincent Seminary in Boynton Beach, FL and St. Francis Seminary in Loretto, PA. In 1979 he was missioned to the Pontifical College Josephinum in Worthington, OH , where he was a professor of theology, dean and subsequent director of the pre-theology program until his retirement in 2007. In 2007 Father returned to the Jesuit Center to pray for the church and the Society of Jesus until his death. He is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by four sisters Marjorie Clements, Ann Lynn, Mary Lynn and Rita Lynn and a brother Edward Lynn. Father Lynn will be waked at the Jesuit Center on Friday, January 4, 2013 from 9-11 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Jesuit Cemetery on the grounds of the Jesuit Center.
