Reverend Ethel Marr Dunson

DUNSON Reverend Ethel Marr Dunson was born on July 13, 1929 in Columbus, Ohio (flytown) and passed on July 20, 2012. She was a graduate of East High School, obtained a Bachelor of Science from Defiance College and a M Div from Methodist Theological Seminary. Ordained at University Baptist Church where she was also a member. She was director of Christian education and minister of social support at Shiloh Baptist Church, and administrative assistant at Mount Olivet Baptist Church under Dr. H. Beecher Hicks Sr. A foster parent for 13 years and wrote the national foster parents creed that was adopted in to the U.S. Library of Congress. She had many other distinguished honors, too many to list, and also had traveled extensively during her lifetime. Rev. Dunson was proceeded in death by her parents John and Flora Ethel (Hogg) Marr, her brothers Hank Marr, James Marr and John Marr, and ex-husband Henry Dunson. Survived by her children, Henry A. Dunson, Diana Dunson Caesar, Donna J. Dunson and David A. Dunson Sr.; her foster daughter, Josephine Bates; grandchildren, Rachel Dunson, Kel-lee D. Caesar, David A. Dunson Jr.; sister-in-laws, Easter Esther Marr and Lucille Marr; great granddaughter, Shaniyah Chambers; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Other surviving family, Flora Milton, Olas (Rose) Dunson and Perry Dunson. The family will receive friends and family on Friday, July 27 at University Baptist Church, 50 W. Lane Ave. (entrance and parking lot on 31 W. Norwich) from 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday July 28 at 9 a.m. until the time of service. The home going celebration will be on Saturday, July 28 at University Baptist Church at 9:30 a.m. Conducted by Pastor Tommy L. Faris and assisted by other ministers. The interment will be at Union Cemetery. Direction by Brooks-Owens Funeral Home, 235-0071.
