Samuel A. Shuman

Shuman Samuel A. Shuman, age 89, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2016. Graduate of Burnham High School, Burnham, PA and Penn State University, Class of 1950 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Veteran U. S. Army Infantry, Second Lieutenant. He joined Speer Mechanical (formerly Julian Speer Company) in 1957. He built the organization into one of Ohio's leading mechanical contractors, serving as President through the mid 1990's, continuing as an Advisory Board member until his death. Member of Overbrook Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder; he was a longtime member of the Columbus Maennerchor and a past Board Member; he was active for many years with the Mechanical Contractor's Assoc. of Central Ohio serving on the Board, as President, and on many committees. He was active for many years in the Mechanical Contractors Assoc. of America as a Board member and Past President. He was active for many years with the Builders Exchange of Central Ohio, serving on the Board as Past President and a Cornerstone Award recipient. He was also a member of the President's Club at Penn State University. Avid tennis player into his early 80's. Preceded in death by wife Sara Lewis Shuman and daughter Kimberly A. Shuman. Survived by wife, Joyce; sons, Dennis (Nancy) of Dublin, Michael (Jocelyn) of Westerville, and Randal (Beth) of Garden Valley, ID; step-children, D. Timothy (Karen) Huey, Douglass (Sandy) Huey, and Dana (Robert) Nichols; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Minnie Evelyn Blazer; many nieces and nephews.
