Timothy Macklin Obituary

MACKLIN Timothy Frank Macklin, born April 23, 1943, to D. Don and Rachel Rowe Macklin, gently passed away on January 30, 2009, surrounded by his beloved family. Tim was a life-long Clintonville resident and graduated from North High School and The Ohio State University. He completed his Master's Degree at Xavier University. He began his work career at Lazarus in the fledgling data processing department and retired from Chase Bank as an internal auditor. Tim loved many things in this world, foremost among them his family, friends and spending time at "the farm." He had the kindest heart, the sharpest wit, and an astounding amount of trivial knowledge. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 48 years, Joanna Ballard Macklin; and their three beautiful daughters, Lorraine (James) Beidler, Julie Lewis, and Kristen (Wesley) Macklin-Lanning; grandchildren, Rachel and Macklin Beidler, Amanda, Jacob (Ashley) and Nicholas Lewis, Nicole Sweet and Thomas Lanning; great-grandson, Christopher Sweet; sisters Mary (David) Hitz, and Susan Emswiler; and many nieces and nephews. Tim was a member of Crestview Presbyterian Church and served as the president of the Board of Trustees. A memorial service celebrating Tim's life will be held at the SOUTHWICK-GOOD & FORTKAMP FUNERAL CHAPEL, 3100 N. High St. on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at 7 p.m. The service will be preceded by visitation and refreshments from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. Please come and bring a story to share. Tim brought great joy; we want to share that joy with all of you. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association of Ohio, 1950 Arlingate Lane, Columbus, Oh., 43228 or the American Heart Association, Ohio Valley Affiliate, P.O. I worked with Tim back in 1997 in CompuServe. He was a great person to be around, supportive and smart but above all fair and kind. I extend my condolences to his family and friends.

I've known Tim since 1950 as his almost next door neighbor and we had so many good times together at the house and at the farm. Tim was a special person, and I'm sure he will be missed by all who crossed his path. My heart-felt condolences to Joanna, Julie, Kristen, Lori, Susan, Mary, and the rest of the family.

Tim and I were residents on the same block throughout our public school years. Some of my fond memories are neighborhood picnics at the Macklin home, and occasional weekends at the farm. I extend my condolences to Tim's family, many friends and coworkers.

We loved Tim. He was a good friend. He had a great personality, was fun to be around, and enjoyed life. The farm will never be the same without Tim and Ronnie. Anita and Joel have fond menories being with Tim and all the Macklins. Who will help Paul web the chairs? Love, Paul and Janet

I first knew Tim when we were at Clinton Elementary School and spent many happy days at the Macklin house that seemed to welcome all the neighborhood children. Glad that Tim and Joanna came to visit us here in British Columbia once we were all "growed up". My heartfelt sympathy to Mary and Susan, to Joanna and all the family. Bless you all.

When Tim was in charge of MIS at CompuServe, he was regularly asked to do the impossible. Just like the wise corporate pilot who tells the CEO, "no sir, Aspen is impossible tonight, but I can get you to Eagle," Tim always made the best choice possible and kept the creaky system he inherited alive. I've always had the greatest respect for Tim, his skills, his kindness, and of course, his jokes. I will miss him.

Tim was one of those people who helped make CompuServe such a great place to work. I enjoyed playing racquetball with Tim and, of course, he sense of humor.

My condolences to his family.

I had the pleasure of working with Tim for several years at CompuServe and appreciated both his professionalism and ability to get things done as well as his sense of humor. Tim and I also shared many matches on the racquetball court. I also remember my wife and I going to a George Jones/Conway Twitty concert with Tim and Joanna and having a great time. I have wonderful memories of Tim and I know you do too. May the God that welcomed Tim home bring you comfort.

My condolences to Tim's family and friends. Tim was always upbeat with a positive attitude during our days together at CompuServe in the 90's. He was a great guy and will be missed by all.

Iworked with Tim at CompuServe and we spent many hours playing racquetball against one another. I even talked him into playing for one of my softball teams. He was a bright, fun, professional, witty, warm, sincere and genuine person. Even though we lost touch I am proud to remember him as a friend. I just learned about his passing a few minutes ago and, oddly enough I won't be able to attend this evening's service because I have a racquetball match. But he'll be in my thoughts more than ever and in my heart.

Tim was my manager when I worked at CompuServe during the late 1990s. Not long afterwards, I worked with him at Cap Gemini, where we both managed other consultants. I enjoyed working for him and then working with him. He was a profoundly interesting man with a good sense of humor. It was a pleasure to know him and I am so sorry to hear that he is no longer with us.

It seemed like everyone knew Tim, and all that knew him liked him. We enjoyed his fine companionship, steady wisdom, witty conversation, and even temperament. He would always lend a hand if he could, without judging, and find a way to be helpful. We will miss his lunch time conversations, and his great knowledge, and love, of bluegrass music. We will also miss stories of his family and farm. We have lost a wise and gentle soul.

I grew up blocks away from the Macklin family. I have numerous childhood memories from going to the farm to crazy antics with Lori and Julie. My heart goes out to you.

Tim was an exceptional person and I am blessed to have had the unique opportunity to work with him at Cap Gemini. I cannot imagine how much he will be missed but I can imagine all the treasured memories that span the minds of those who had the opportunity to know him, even for just a little while, like myself. I know he is in a better place.

I am so sorry to learn of Tim's passing. I worked with Tim at Cap Gemini several years ago. Tim was utmost professional and a great mentor to all.

I will miss seeing Tim on a daily basis. I knew Tim only a few years, but came to become a good friend of that cuddly, good natured man. May God bless his family and watch over them giving them strength in the days, weeks and months ahead. He never stopped despite his health. He lived life as if nothing was ever wrong. He set an example for others to follow.
