I meet Robert when I was 18, fresh out of boot camp and stationed at DCSC now DSCC. I remember being nervous my first day and how he made me feel welcomed. I also remembered when I met Victoria his niece and she was taking me to a family function and I was feeling nervous about meeting her family for the first time and when I saw him. he made a joke and the nervous feeling went away, Eventually he became uncle Robert and every time I was around him I felt comfortable and like I was always part of the family. He is the type of man that I strive to be like everyday. Open hearted and a joyous personality. He will be missed greatly.

Wilma and family,
I know you've heard this before, but trust me, earth has no sorrow that heaven can not heal. I've visited your face book to see such a lovely family. They look like a lot of love has been given to them. That love came from you and Robert. The joy of shared love between you and Robert will one day outweigh the pain you feel now. And God will wipe away every tear from our eyes. Be encouraged to know that the Bibb Family is thinking and praying for you in the hour of need. Be blessed.

GILCHREST FAMILY, I WAS SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THE PASSING OF BOB. WE WENT BACK TO THE 70'S WHEN HE WAS A DRIVER FOR CTC [COTA NOW]. HE AND MY FORMER HUSBAND WAS GOOD FRIENDS AND BOTH DRIVERS. HIS NAME WAS LAMAR BURTTS, AND THEY STILL STAYED IN TOUCH WITH ONE ANOTHER. BOB WAS THE BEST MAN AT MINE AND LAMAR'S WEDDING.I HAVE NOT SAW BOB SINCE IN THE 70'S, BUT DID TALK TO HIM ON THE PHONE ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO, WHEN LAMAR HAD THREE WAY CALLING. HE WAS A WONDERFUL PERSON, AND A LOT OF FUN. MY OLDEST DAUGHTER KATRINA USED TO BABYSIT SHANITA WHEN HE CAME TO VISIT. GOD BLESS ALL OF THE FAMILY, AND IKNOW HE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED BY ALL. LAMAR IS NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO ATTEND THE FURNERAL,AS HE IS HAVING A BAD BOUT WITH THE GROUT.

To Wilma and the entire Gilchrest Family (my Cousins & Family):
Here we go down this road again. It is a sad time, yet we must find a reason to rejoice. It seems that a lot of our family members have made the same journey over the last few years. But, in the midst of our sorrow and grief, we know that our God is faithful, and He loves us. He loved Robert too. Therefore, I am assured that all is well with his soul. We should hold fast to the good memories that we have of Robert. These are just a few:
When we were small children, Robert served as Sunday School Superintendant at the Second Shiloh Baptist Church under the pastorate of our uncle, the late Pastor Walter Hairston. (I bet you had forgotten that!
He always had a big booming laugh and loved to make people smile. He was my "go-to" person for anything happening in the family. If I needed to contact anyone, I would always call Robert and he would make the connection for me.
Whenever anything happened in our family, he always showed up. I remember when my husband Buck died, Robert was on his way to a prepaid cruise that he could not cancel. He called me and expressed his sincere regret that he would be out of the country and, therefore, couldn't be there. He meant it and I knew he did. He was genuine.
Robert used to e-mail me frequently with something that would make me laugh or put a smile on my face. I didn't open my e-mail daily, but when I did, I would always look for something encouraging or funny from him. I already miss "Big Gil."
He was my big cousin and I love him. Make no mistake about it, I'm on my way to Heaven, and I will look for him when I arrive.
I will keep you in my prayers. Feel free to call me when it seems that the burden of separation gets real heavy. It helps to share.
Love in Jesus (AGAPAO)
Cousin, Deborah Williams

I knew the man, I know the family, I have enjoyed good spirits and I have experienced bad times. Through it all RSG always had something good to say. It has been said that life is like a train ride. We board to a place unknown. A man comes along and takes our ticket and states he will inform us of our stop, as we travel along life’s highways. As we travel we meet a number of people who board at different points along our journey. Some we keep in our mind and in our hearts while others are just a fading memory of a time gone by and another stop along the way. On Wednesday the conductor called Gil's stop. His journey has been a good one and he has touched a number of lives by making friends along his journey. He may have left the train but he will not be for gotten. For each of us have a ticket and await the conductor to call our stop. For in the house of the father there are many rooms and one has been awaiting your arrival. You can now rest from your long journey.
You will be missed.
