It's good to be reminded of David. What a great person. I feel privileged to have known him. He supported me at a time when doing so came at a cost to him. Just thinking about him makes me want to raise my game in so many ways.

Well, after losing its stength in Arithmetic Geometry for a number of years, the Ohio State Math department seems to be rebuilding its strength in Arithmetic Geometry these days. I am sure David would have been delighted at this turn of events. It is most unfortunate he is not around to enjoy this.

David was such a good friend to Elsevier and to me in 2012. I’ll always remember how brave he was and what a great sense of pride he had in his work and his journal. I was so distressed to learn of his passing.

What a shock. I was a young faculty member at Michigan when David was an undergraduate. He was such a fine person, and so talented. I was about to ask him to help me with a project. From time to time, when he spotted an item in the news that he thought would interest me, he forwarded it to me. I appreciate his thoughtfulness, and miss him.

I'm shocked to hear of David's loss. We met at the Number Theory seminars at Ann Arbor in the 80's. I was deeply impressed by his humility and friendliness. A truly great man. I'll cherish his writings. Please accept my heartfelt condolences.

Dear Rita and Family,
I am a friend from Princeton days. What a shocking loss, stay strong. David was special -- we could drift apart just by different paths taken, but we always met again, and it was always electric. He could engage you instantly and it was as fresh as ever. That was a gift, and a blessing for those of us around him. Our prayers are with you and the family.

I was very saddened to hear to about David. I knew him briefly when he was a senior at U of Michigan. We took Montgomery's Analytic Number Theory class together. David had a great sense of humor and he was very bright. We knew he would make his mark, and he did. He will be missed.
Don Lewis thought highly of David, and he was not one to give his praise lightly.

I had David as a university leader for my STEP sophomore group at Ohio State just two years ago. He was a great guy who cared about every member of our group and always was there for support and to listen to what each of us were going through. He did all he could to help us and it is clear that he was a warm, funny, and caring man. I'm sorry that I hadn't been in touch with him since. It is a true tragedy to see him go. RIP.

Dear Mrs Goss,
I came to know the terribly sad news about David a few days ago. I didn't know David well. We never met. We only corresponded by email and spoke on the phone. But I quickly came to respect and admire him for his dedication to his work, his humanity and his humor.
It is clear he made a profound impact on many people, including me, and I hope that is of some comfort to you and the family he leaves behind.

So hard to choose the right words. David was the yin to your yang. You completed each other with perfect timing and great balance. I always smiled when I would think about your playful banters. Lovingly, you guys could argue and hold your ground, with a smile and a twinkle in your eyes. I can't imagine how difficult (impossible) David's loss will be for all of you in the near and distant years. So very sad, and sorry for your loss! Stay strong all of you. Believe in the future! David was a close friend of mine for many years, ever since I came to Ohio State. Since his area of mathematics was not far from mine, we had many discussions on mathematics over the years we were colleagues.
Many of us are really shocked by his passing away so unexpectedly. He will be

Rita, my heart goes out to you; I was so glad to spend an afternoon with him last fall -- we agreed it had been too long. David was so full of sunshine that day, with his retirement and my not working we talked about visiting more often. He had always taken the time to keep contact with me during the tough times in my life. I wish I could have another sunny day with him.
