Andrew F Koehler age 67 of Upper Sandusky, died surrounded by family on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at his residence. He was born in Tiffin on January 11, 1950 to Raymond F. and Mary E. (Finley) Koehler. He married Brenda K. (Von Stein) Koehler on November 3, 1973 and she survives in Upper Sandusky. Mr. Koehler is also survived by his daughters Stephanie (Martin) Lamp, Lewis Center, Rachel (Jorge) Chiu-Koehler, Westerville, two grandsons Andrew Lawrence Lamp, Mitchell Koehler Lamp, of Lewis Center, brother David Koehler (Cindi Englefield), Dublin, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Mr. Koehler grew up in the First Presbyterian Church and later became an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He sang tenor in the church choir and served on church council. Andy enjoyed cooking bratwurst for the church Oktoberfest. Mr. Koehler graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1968 where he was a varsity basketball player. After graduation he played basketball as a freshman at Butler University where he also was a member of LXA Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He graduated from Ohio Northern University Pharmacy School. Andy worked at the family pharmacy at the age 14 where he received his first pay check. He was a pharmacist/owner of the Koehler Drug Company where he served the community for 53 years. After 80 years Koehler Drug Company will continue to be operated by the family. Professionally, he was a member of the OPHA and APHA. He was a former board member of Angeline Industries, and a member of BPOE #83 Elks. He enjoyed golfing, particularly at Hilton Head, SC. Andy was an avid OSU Buckeye Fan where on Saturday afternoon the family would gather at the shoe. The family also attended the Skull Session and listened to his brother announce the best damn band in the land. What was most valued to Andy was his family and serving the community. Andy was so occupied that you would see him mowing his lawn in his dress pants, white shirt and tie. Andy was a true hero. He worked for decades in his family-run pharmacy, keeping people employed and residents feeling loved and cared for. He took personal responsibility in taking care of his community and his neighbors. He built his business on kindness and trust. His rock solid faith in a loving God was one we should all strive to attain and his love for his family was boundless. He was the kindest, funniest and sweetest man we knew. A true hero. A funeral service will be held Mon. July 24 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Joe Trester officiating. Visitation will be held from 1-6 PM on Sun. July 23 at the funeral home and from 9:30-11 AM on Mon. July 24 at the church. Andy will be interned on the family plot beside his mother at Oak Hill Cemetery at a private family burial.
