Anthony Graves Obituary
Graves Anthony Graves, 68, on June 3, 2017, after a brief battle with cancer went home to be with the Lord. Anthony, generally known by Tony was born on January 8, 1949 in Mansfield, Ohio. He was the second child of Dorothy and Charles Graves. Tony graduated from South High School, Akron, Ohio in 1967, and shortly thereafter enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. His Tour of Duty was in Vietnam. He was wounded in combat, and decorated as an American Hero, receiving the "Purple Heart". He was a member of the Second Baptist Church under the Pastorship of Roderick C. Pounds, Sr. Tony was preceded in death by his father Charles Graves, sister Joan Graves, and wife of 21 years, Audrey Graves. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Dorothy G. Pearson; brothers, Gary W. Graves of Akron, OH, Michael (Lori) Wheeler of Mansfield, OH; daughter, Toni (Dwayne) Spears of Columbus, OH; son, Andrew (Denise) Nelson of Canton, OH; grandchildren, Kari, Amarah and Drake Spears, Cameo Stewart, Andrew II, Paul and Brandon Nelson and Larissa Foster; aunts, Ann G. Boone, Margaret Gulledge-Wesley and Cordelia Gulledge; uncles, Joseph (Edna) Gulledge and Theodore DuBose; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017 at 11:30 a.m at Second Baptist Church, 690 S. Main St., Akron, OH 44311, Pastor Roderick C. Pounds Sr., eulogizing, friends may visit at the church from 11 a.m. service will directly follow. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 1500 Marion Ave., Apt. 410, Akron, OH 44313. Inurnment will be held Monday, June 19, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio 44273.
