Arthur Good Obituary

GOOD Arthur Jerry Good, age 80, passed away peacefully, Sunday, September 21, 2008, at Tuscany Gardens in Pataskala. Born September 29, 1927, in Pickerington, to the late Arthur J. and Bertha E. (Ruse) Good, he was a 1945 graduate of Pickerington High School and attended Wilmington College and The Ohio State University. Jerry's early business experience began at age 16, acquiring his chauffeur's license and driving trucks for his father's business, the Pickerington Creamery. A regional dairy and food company, the Creamery manufactured and distributed butter, cheese, dry milk and other institutional foods. He was president of the company from 1957-1980 and chairman from 1980 to the present. Jerry served the dairy industry as an officer of the American Butter Institute (President 1965 and Director 1960-72), the Ohio Dairy Products Association (President 1965, Board of Trustees and Treasurer over 27 years, beginning in 1960), was a director of the American Dry Milk Institute, and was awarded a lifetime honorary directorship of the American Dairy Products Institute. He gave generously of his time to further the educational programs of the OSU Department of Dairy Technology, serving on the Department's Advisory Committee and the Industrial Support Council of the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center. For his outstanding leadership and service to the department and the dairy industry, he received the Department's Award of Merit in 1979. Jerry served the Central Ohio business community as a member of the Founding Board and Coordinating Council of the Lancaster Campus of Ohio University, was a past director and executive committee member of Grange Mutual Casualty Company and Grange Life Insurance Company, and on numerous other boards including Fairfield County AAA Corporate Board, Dycap, Inc., Wendward Corp., GM Premium, Central Aluminum Co., and the Food Equipment Corp. He also cherished the friendships developed as a founding member of the Columbus chapter of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) and a member of the World Presidents Organization (WPO). Jerry has been a member of the Pickerington Lions Club since 1947 (President 1959, Secretary 1957), the Columbus Maennerchor, a 32º Mason of the Canal Winchester Masonic Lodge, member of the Tarhe Shrine Club, and a lifetime member of the Peace United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 35 years Mary Alice (Roshon) Good, daughter-in-law Gayle (England) Good and half-brothers Frank, Bob and Herbert Vandemark. He is survived by his loving wife, Lois M. Good; sons, A. James (Pamela) Good and David A. Good; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jarrett) Skrobarcek, Jeffrey Good, Michael Good, Lisa Good; step-children, step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Gerry is the final man to go of the three lifelong friends - all in a very short span. Gerry Good, Gale Roshon and Jim Steckel (my father) grew up together and live their entire lives celebrating the best that life had to offer them together as the threesome. Their lives intertwined with friendship, schooling, organization membership and business. I found our families relationship profoundly meaningful as a child and it continues now as we, the adult children of this marvelous threesome, carry on the life long joys of the life. I will miss the fun tailgating before a Buckeye game, visiting the Buckeye Lake house, or traveling to Florida with our three mentors. They each have brought meaning to my life and I will miss them all. Great men one and all.
