Barbara Jean Madison

Obituary Condolences

Madison Barbara Jean Madison, age 70, of Dublin, died peacefully on Monday, April 8, 2013. Barbara got on a bus and left St Albans, WV after high school and came to Columbus to live with her aunt and uncle who was a general contractor. Her uncle was doing some work in the office of the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA) for the elected secretary, Dr. Rebraisser. Dr. Rebraisser was in need of a secretary so Barbara's uncle introduced them. This began their years of friendship. Barbara loved him as a father. When Gene King was hired as the Director of the OVMA he elected to have Barbara continue to work with him and the organization. Her association lasted 42 years and she never missed one day during her tenure because of illness. She was promoted to Assistant Director of the OVMA during the last years of Mr. King's employment. The organization was committee based under the direction of Mr. King with the able assistance of Barbara. During those 42 years the association grew and hosted one of the largest annual Veterinary meetings in the USA. It provided excellent continuing education courses to the members in Ohio and practitioners though out the USA. After retirement from the OVMA, Barbara continued to work with the Columbus Academy of Veterinary Medicine; the OVAT (Ohio Veterinary Association of Technicians); the Virginia Gay Trust serving retired teachers; the director of the Annual Boyne Highlands CE and Ski week which just celebrated its 41st year in January; Secretary of the MedVet Charitable Foundation; the Dublin-Worthington Rotary Club where she served as their Secretary for several years. She also enjoyed the Worthington Friday Morning Prayer Breakfast. Barbara was loved by all the many people who had any contact with her and she, in turn, loved them as well. She is survived by her sisters, Carolyn Jo Griffith, Moorefield, WV, Susan Bosley (Bill), Charleston, WV, and George Madison (Joan) Waynesboro, VA.; nine nieces and nephews; several great and great great nieces and nephews. Other good friends are Milt and Marlyn Wyman and George and Linda Norris.
