Beatrice Appleman "Bea" Roth Obituary
Roth Beatrice "Bea" Appleman Roth, 85, our beloved mom, grandma, great-grandma and friend was released into the heavens Saturday evening, March 25, after a 10- year struggle with "Parkinsonism". She was our love, life and joy! Her easy going, kind, and witty personality drew people in. Her smile and laughter brought joy to all who knew her. Whether it was studying for a test, practicing piano or physically challenging herself to maintain movement, her determination, hard work, and persistence to achieve was always there. Bea was the oldest child born to Geneive and Corel Appleman in Wooster, OH on July 18, 1931. She had two younger brothers, Carlos Appleman from Wooster (predeceased) and Stan Appleman (Gail) of Orlando, FL. Bea grew up in and around Shreve, OH where she graduated as valedictorian in 1949 from Shreve High School. She was a cheerleader, went to Girls' State and was an accomplished pianist. Bea was a trail blazer graduating from The University of Toledo in 1954 in the College of Pharmacy, summa cum laude, obtaining the highest score in OH on the Pharmacy State Board. She was a sister in the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. Bea married her high school sweetheart, Marvin Roth on June 13, 1954 (predeceased 1997), moving to Army bases in OK, TX, and LA. Upon discharge from the Army, the family moved to several locations in OH (Toledo, Cleveland, Warren) finally settling in Dublin in 1966. Throughout her life, she worked as a pharmacist, for Gray Drug, Rite Aid, and CVS. She was a member of the Columbus Chapter of Kappa Epsilon. Bea loved to garden, play the piano and organ, eat ice cream, read and travel (England, Europe, Russia, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, the Canadian Rockies, Newfoundland and China). Wow! But mostly she loved spending time with her family, her "perfect" grandchildren, and her friends. Bea is survived by her two daughters, Cyndie Miller (Gary) from Bellville and Teri Alexander from Grandview Hts. She has seven grandchildren, Jen Allen (Jared), Seth Miller (Ashley), Ashleigh Gulling (Tim), Jared Miller, Carissa Miller (Joe Mazzola), John Alexander III and Hannah Miller. She is further survived by six great-grandchildren, Isaac, Elizabeth, Rose, and Jude Mazzola, Jordan Gulling and Aleah Miller. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members. Mom's friends have been an endearing legacy and we thank them for truly enriching her life. The family extends a special note of gratitude for the very compassionate care that "Miss Bea" received from the staff at Mill Run Gardens and Care Center, where she resided for the last 5 years. We also want to acknowledge Barbara Castelli, her remarkable physical therapist; and the exceptional end-of-life care she received from Comfort Keepers and Ohio Health Hospice over the last few months. Calling hours will be held Friday, March 31 at 1-2 p.m. at SCHLABACH FUNERAL HOME, 212 Jones St., Shreve, OH 44676. A committal service will follow at 2 p.m., with Pastor Dennis Rinehart officiating. A "Celebration of Bea's Life" will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, with Reverend Dr. Richard A. Wing from First Community Church officiating at Mill Run Gardens and Care Center, 3399 Mill Run Dr., Hilliard, OH 43026. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Beatrice Appleman Roth Scholarship Fund at The University of Toledo Foundation, 2801 W. Bancroft St., MS 319, Toledo, OH 43606-3395 or to , PO Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 2174105014. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.SCHLABACHFH.COM.
