Betty Elliott Obituary

ELLIOTT Betty Ann Wegener Elliott, age 70, died on July 28, 2009 after a lengthy but courageous battle with cardiovascular disease and cancer. Betty Ann attended Bexley High School through her sophomore year and graduated from the Columbus School for Girls in 1956. Betty Ann graduated from The Ohio State University with a B.S. in Home Economics in 1960. She was an avid Ohio State fan and will be a Buckeye forever. She was heavily involved in CSG activities serving on the Alumni Board and as CSG's Grandparent representative. Betty Ann was a member of the Junior League of Columbus, Twig 61 and St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Bexley, Oh. Although she had many hobbies and activities, her family was her life and her most precious pastime was attending the many athletic and other activities involving her nine grandchildren. She was truly a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all those who knew her. She was adored by all and will be missed beyond words by her family and her countless friends. Betty Ann was preceded in death by her grandmother and grandfather Florence Donaldson Harrington and Henry Harrington, her mother Betty Harrington Emig and step-father Richard Emig, her father George Harold Wegener and step-mother Trudy Wegener and her aunt Ann Harrington Davis. Betty Ann is survived by many loving family members, including her husband of 48 years, Rex H. Elliott; her sons and daughters-in-law, Rex and Samantha Elliott, David and Lisa Elliott and Preston and Jill Elliott; and her extraordinary grandchildren, Ashley, Alexandra, Gabrielle, Reese, Drew, Caroline, Annie, Grace and Jack Elliott. Betty Ann is also survived by her sisters, Gretchen Hull (Byron), Nancy Jones (Bruce), and Mary Ellen Korpan; nieces, Holly Ellenberger (Brad) and Mary Pris Ebinger; nephews, Phillip Ebinger, George Ebinger, Frank Vokoun and Preston Jones; cousin, Sally Sieg (Ken); and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Eb and Priscilla Ebinger of Atlanta, Ga. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2009 at 11 a.m. at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 333 South Drexel Avenue, Bexley, Oh. 43209. The family will also receive friends on Thursday, July 30, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER MIDTOWN CHAPEL, 229 East State Street, Columbus, Oh. 43215. In lieu of flowers, our Mother expressed a preference that contributions be sent to St. Alban's which will be earmarked for the Church's Memorial Gardens or Zusman Community Hospice, 1151 College Avenue, Columbus, Oh. 43209. Dear Friends - I returned from out-of-town to learn of Betty Ann's passing. Knowing Rex and B.A. for 35+ years, I saw her as sunshine - fun and laughing. Like everyone, I admired her courageous and indomitable spirit in the face of her health situation. Add to that her devotion to family and friends, and we knew a very special person. Deepest sympathies -- Geoff

Dear Rex and Family,
Betty Ann was such a fun and vibrant light in the Columbus community. I recall sharing many laughs and a few tears as we began CSG together, sorted books in a school closet for the Jr. League, and raised our children in Bexley. She was so gracious and courageous in her health struggles, setting a remarkable example for us all.

Dearest Rex and Family,
My deepest sympathies to you and your family. I can remember meeting you and Betty Ann while growing up babysitting for Debbie and Barney. It has been my great pleasure to have remained a friend as I have become an adult. I also send my appreciation for your friendship with my parents, Ruth & Ken. They loved Betty Ann as much as she loved them, they are together now with many other of our loved ones. You will remain in my daily prayers and my loving thoughts.

DEAR REX AND FAMILY,

SO SORRY TO HEAR OF BETTY ANN'S DEATH. I KNEW FROM JUDY BRACHMAN AND ANDY LORIG THAT IT WAS A MATTER OF TIME. I AM SO SORRY FOR ALL OF YOU. I REMEMBER SO WELL THE DAYS IN HIGH SCHOOL AT OUR HOUSE WITH SUSAN. WHEN I SAW HER AT GRANDPARENT'S DAY I WAS SO IMPRESSED WITH HER COURAGE AND POSITIVE OUTLOOK. I WILL NEVER FORGET THE ARTICLE IN THE DISPATCH. WHAT A TRIBUTE! WE ARE ON VACATION SO I WILL BE UNABLE TO ATTEND HER SERVICE. KNOW THAT BOTH JIM AND I ARE THINKING OF ALL OF YOU.

Rex, Betty Ann has been a part of my life for over 45 years: a neighbor, mother of boys same age, Twig, working at Adelaide's together, birthday lunch group--a dear friend!!! I shall miss her but know she is in a better place in the beautiful garden with her friends and her Lord. She had the most positive attitude throughout her life of anyone I've known, I believe. She will remain in my heart and memory always.
I'm sorry I cannot be there in person to bid her adieu. Much love and sympathy to you and your family. Annie Webster Dickinson
