Betty worked as a secretary at a secretarial firm while Vern traveled as a speaker for the National Meat Board. In 1953, they returned to Ohio and lived in Cincinnati with their 2 children. Betty was an involved, loving mother. She was the room mother, girl scout leader, involved in PTA and her church, and chauffeur for her children and friends to many school and sports activities. She also found time to attend the University of Cincinnati and graduated with a BA in education. In 1969, she and Vern moved the family back to Columbus to both work at Burke Sales Company with Betty's sister and her husband. In 1974, they built their home on their farm in Baltimore, Ohio, where she resided until her death.
