Betty I. Willke, 91, of Upper Arlington, entered the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, while listening to the "Hallelujah Chorus" from Handel's Messiah on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018. She went home peacefully while surrounded by her children and loved ones. Betty was born on May 26, 1926 in Akron, Ohio. She attended The Ohio State University as a Math major. She was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. She was a housewife for many years, writing and leading numerous Bible Studies, Vacation Bible School Programs, and Adult Sunday School classes. Betty and Warren founded the four Christian Armory Book Stores in Columbus from 1970-2002. Betty is preceded in death by her husbands Pastor Warren C. Willke and R. Richard Swingle, her parents C.R. and Audrey Blake, brother Richard Blake and stepdaughter Susan. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Sandra (Dr. John) Baumert; Richard (Mika) Swingle; Scott (Rebecca) Swingle; and Brett (Kathy) Swingle; stepchildren, Linda, Constance, Karen, Tracy, and Penny; grandchildren, Dr. Stephen (Dr. Susan) Baumert, Michael (Amy) Baumert, Sarah Baumert, Demian Swingle, Paul (Kelly) Swingle, David (Jessica) Swingle, Daniel (Kim) Swingle, Aly Swingle, Blake Swingle, step-grandson, Sean Dukey; great-grandchildren, Jonah, Benjamin, Nathaniel, Timothy, Jacob, William and a gestational Baumert; Lane, Talyn, Edith, P. Richard, Kalea, Amrei Swingle; and step-great-grandchildren, Cody, Kaylin, and Cole Swingle. The family would like to thank the staff at Westminster Thurber Assisted Living, and the physicians and staff at Riverside Methodist Hospital Hospice Care for the tender, loving care during her final days. A memorial service will be held at Bethel Road Presbyterian Church, 1735 Bethel Road, Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 11 a.m. The family will receive visitors at the church from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. A private family gravesite burial will be held prior to the memorial service.
