ALKIRE Carol Clark Alkire, 85, of Wesley Chapel, Florida, was granted her angel wings and graduated to the presence of her Lord on January 27, 2010. Her final days were spent surrounded by loving family and friends that Carol had touched in some small way throughout her very memorable life. Born in Dayton, Ohio, on September 28, 1924, to Wesley and Laura Clark, and graduated from Otterbein College, Carol married Robert "Bob" W. Alkire on August 3, 1945. She enjoyed raising and showing Great Danes and Basset Hounds and was very active within the local and national Basset Hound clubs. Retiring and moving to Florida in 1983, as well as losing her love of her life for 39 years of marriage, Carol went back to work and retired from Belk's of Fort Pierce, Florida. She never turned her head to a challenge, as she was stricken with polio at the very young age of 16 granting her the use of only one arm. She was an inspiration to us all, as when you drove by her house, you may have seen her driving her tractor mowing her own yard. Carol walked the earth with grace, intelligence, and wit, and on sight one recognized her innate dignity and goodness. She was an active member of the Indian River Presbyterian Church in Fort Pierce, Florida, for many years before moving to Wesley Chapel, Florida. Carol is preceded in death by her parents Wesley and Laura Clark, husband Robert W. Alkire, and infant daughter Karen S. Alkire. Carol is survived by many who loved her greatly, daughter, Pamela C. Alkire of Gainesville, Florida; sons, Richard W. Alkire and wife Kimberly of Port St. Lucie, Florida and Steven R. Alkire and wife Deidre of Wesley Chapel, Florida; brother, James Clark of Dayton, Ohio and wife Jan; grandchildren, Kenneth Smith and wife Jenny, Jennifer Alkire, Brittany Alkire, twins Laura and Robert Bozeman and Ashleigh Alkire (known as "G-Daughter"). Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, February 5, 2010, at HILL FUNERAL HOME, 220 South State Street, in Westerville, Ohio. A processional will begin at Hill Funeral Home on Saturday, February 6, 2010, at 10 a.m. to Otterbein cemetery. A separate memorial service will be held at the Indian River Presbyterian Church, 2499 Virginia Ave., Fort Pierce, Florida, on Saturday, February 20 at 3 p.m.
