Carol Newhafer Bittel Obituary
Bittel Carol Newhafer Bittel, age 97, died on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at The Forum of Knightsbridge, Columbus, Ohio. Carol was born on December 30, 1919 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Lewis and Mary Newhafer. Carol married Jack Bittel in January, 1948, and moved to Poland, Ohio in 1953, they resided in Poland until 2012. Carol was the strength, heart and soul of her family. Carol was predeceased by the two loves of her life. Jack Bittel, her husband, died in March, 2016, and her best friend and brother Richard Newhafer, died in October, 1974. Carol is survived by three (3) children, Mary Bergen of Kennebunkport, Maine, Calley Bittel of New York City and Frank (Maureen) Bittel of Columbus, Ohio; and three (3) grandchildren, Jayne Balzano, Jack Bittel and Neil Bittel; and one great-grandson, A.J. Balzano. The Bittel family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at The Forum of Knightsbridge; Kindred Care Hospice and also to Carol and Jack's special friend, Cathleen Denti. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Church, 2729 Center Road in Poland, Ohio at 10 a.m. on May 2, 2017. Interment to follow at Riverside Cemetery, Poland, Ohio. During her years in Poland, Carol was an active member of Youngstown Country Club, and spent much time golfing and playing bridge with her friends.
