June was born May 16, 1932 in Lancaster, Ohio, and died peacefully in her apartment at of Dublin on December 11, 2017, at age 85. She was the daughter of Orville and Marguerite Bolar. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Rev. John L. Hickman. She is also survived by her son, John Mark (Anne) Hickman and her daughter, Julie (Dr. Paul Hickman), and grandchildren, Jeffrey (Pam) Hickman, John Lyle Hickman, Joseph Hickman, Ashley (Rev. Reggie) Phillips, Rev. Hunter (Ashley) Hickman and great grandsons, Hudson and Sawyer and great granddaughter, Annabelle Phillips. Another great granddaughter is due next month. She is also survived by her twin sister, Carol Joan (Jack) Hacker, and her brothers, Richard (June) Bolar and Michael (Elsie) Bolar, and many nieces and nephews. She loved her children and grandchildren deeply, and instilled in them a love of reading, education, music, and faith in the Lord. Her steadfast love and faithfulness in ministry leave a great legacy for her family. June graduated from Asbury University, and taught elementary school in Williamsburg, Ohio and Forest Park (Cincinnati), Ohio. She ministered along with her husband, Rev. John Hickman, in Methodist and United Methodist Churches in Mackville-Antioch and Wisemantown, Kentucky, and in Ohio at Frankfort, Millersport, Williamsburg, Cincinnati (Forest Chapel), Delta, Van Wert (First), Superintendent of the Wilmington District, and Columbus (Northwest). She accompanied John as he served as interim pastor in Columbus at New Albany, Summit, St. Andrew, and Scioto Ridge United Methodist Churches. John often described her as "the perfect pastor's wife." A service of celebration will be held at Northwest United Methodist Church on Friday, December 22, at 5 p.m., with Rev. Mebane McMahon officiating. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m., and a fellowship meal will follow the service.
