Charles Amos Dozer, passed away at the age of 82 in his home at Kensington Place on September 1, 2017, surrounded by his family after a yearlong battle with esophageal cancer. Charles was born on Sept 16, 1934 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Charles W. and Sylvia D. Dozer. He graduated from Bexley High School in 1952 and graduated from the Ohio State University in 1956 with honors. He married Shirley Lee Kanavel on June 10, 1956 and were married for 61 years. He started his career with Hartzler Mortgage and spent the last 30 years of his Banking career as the Executive Vice President and CEO of Jefferson Savings Bank in West Jefferson, Ohio.
He belonged and served The Chi Phi Fraternity (64 years), The Columbus Board of Realtors, Columbus Mortgage Bankers Association, Ohio State ROTC, Florence Crittenden Foundation, Central Ohio Diabetes Association, Salvation Army, West Jefferson American Legion, Chairman of the State of Ohio Prison Labor Board, Member of the London Correctional Citizens Labor Advisory Council, Sunrise Lodge #783, Aladdin Temple, Scottish Rite, Ohio Chapter, Columbus Council, Mt. Vernon Commandery, Beacon Chapter Eastern Star, Past Master Councilor Bexley Chapter DeMolay, Civil Service Committee in Bexley and Whitehall, The Columbus Country Club, The University Club, the Athletic Club of Columbus, The Ruffed Grouse Society , London (OH) Rotary Club, OSU President's Club, Madison County Deputy Sheriff's Assn., and past Chairman of the Ohio League of Savings Associations. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles W. and Sylvia D. Dozer; and brother-in-law, Theron (Barney) Barnhart. He is survived by his wife, Shirley K. Dozer; son, Charles H. Dozer (Patti); son, Donald W. Dozer (Tonya); son, Jonathan D. Dozer (Bev); grandchildren, Lauren Hillery (Nate), Shelbi Dozer, Haley Goodburn, Nathan Juergens, Makayla Juergens; great granddaughter, Addilyn Hillery; brother, Daniel H. Dozer; sisters, Caroline Heddleson (David) and Sylvia Falko (Dr. James); sister-in-law, Patricia Barnhart; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Wednesday September 6, 2017 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm (7:30 Masonic Service) at the Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 East Johnstown Road Gahanna, Ohio 43230, where a funeral will be held on September 7, 2017 at 10 am. Interment will be at Glen Rest Memorial Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Heartland Hospice 6500 Busch Blvd, Columbus Ohio 43229, The Central Ohio Diabetes Association, or The Salvation Army. One of Charles' favorite memories was visiting Curtis Michigan and spending time with The Hamrick's while telling stories and listening to The Kingston Trio.
