Charles Malspeis Obituary

MALSPEIS Charles "Chuck" Eli Malspeis, 47, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2011. He is survived by his precious wife, Momi; father, Louis; mother, Sharon; sister, Hilary; and nephew, William. Chuck grew up in Worthington, Ohio, where he graduated from Worthington High School in 1982. He earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from THE Ohio State University, and an M.B.A. from the University of Cincinnati. He was an Ohio State Buckeye all of his life, right down to the Scarlet and Gray shirts he wore nearly every day. He loved football, Ohio State, classic rock, Mustangs, anything humorous, and awesome food and wine most of his life, but his favorite thing was to assist and love his friends and family without hesitation. Most recently, Chuck was a co-founder of Nova Pressroom Products in Jacksonville, Florida and was instrumental in getting the company off to a successful start. Just this March Chuck was married to the love of his life, Momi Cruz, and told her daily that he had never been happier in his life than he was with her and with his new step-daughter, Maya. Chuck was fiercely devoted to his friends and family from Ohio and Florida, and he found great joy in his new family, the Cruz family of Wisconsin and Jacksonville. He was much more than a son, but a friend and companion to his father Dr. Louis Malspeis for the last 13 years while they both resided in Florida. He was the light of his father's life and cared for him endlessly. Chuck's passing is deeply felt by all who knew and loved him, and he will be sincerely and eternally missed. The sparkle in his eye touched all of us. Dream On, Chuck. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 25 at 11 a.m. at the Avondale United Methodist Church, 1651 Talbot Ave., Jacksonville, FL 32205. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ohio State University Scholarship Fund Number 605424.

Momi: I knew Russ, Dan , and Carl. In the early days we would meet at Chucks. Some would play chess, others war games, and others computer games. Chuck had the best car of all of us, a white mustang. Immediately after graduating from H.S., ten of us, including Jeff Jordan, caravaned to Canada for a week vacation. Tell Hilary I said hi. I think she lied in So. Ca.

I just learned of this on the Worthington High School '82 facebook page. I knew Chuck in high school. Mike Sweeney mentioned being on the forensics team with Chuck. I was, too. Chuck was one of the friendliest and happiest people I've known.

I met Chuck in middle school and was friends with him through high school and at Ohio State. We were on the forensics team in high school and performed "The Odd Couple" in duet acting. Chuck played "Felix" and I played "Oscar". Chuck was a great friend. His humor was contagious. He will be missed.

Momi, I was very sad to hear about your husband. I know it is hard on you and will be for years to come. I lost my husband in Dec. 2007 and I still miss him so much and think of him all the time. I will be thinkin about you and know what you are going through when you loose someone you love very much. You probably don't know me, but I am Kevin Sasser's Mother. Dear Sharon and Lou,
I was greatly saddened to learn of the untimely death of your son, Chuck. There is little I can say to soften the tremendous sadness you are feeling. I can't think of anything worse than to bury a child. All I can say is that I am thinking of you during this very tragic time for you and Hilary. Kindest personal regards. Al

I was friends with the Cruz family long ago in Hawaii, and recently reunited with them thru Facebook. I am truly sorry to hear of Chuck's passing. I never had the pleasure of knowing him, but, if he loved the Cruz family, and the Cruz family loved him, he was a fine man!

Chuck was my son-in-law and was so deeply loved by our entire family. Chuck was always smiling and always so generous and kind to everyone. He made me so welcome in his home. He loved my daughter so much and I could just see that love in his eyes. We will always miss this remarkable man. Until we meet again, Chuck, we will love you forever.
