Specht Charles Joseph Specht, 74, of Newark, formerly of Mount Vernon, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday afternoon, May 14, 2017 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center in Newark. He was born August 28, 1942 in Columbus to the late Frank J. and Mildred M. (Ballenger) Specht. Charles was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Mount Vernon. He enjoyed fishing, the Buckeyes, the Bengals and the Reds. He worked for Wilson Graphic Arts in Lancaster as a commercial print salesman. Charles is survived by his wife, Sheryl (Gunder) Specht whom he married on April 21, 1967; daughters, Mandie (Mike) Sheets of Newark and Megan (Tom) Blake of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Sierra (Tre) Ogilbee of Newark, Kayelynn Sheets of Newark and Michael Sheets of Newark; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by a sister Harlene Stubblefield. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at the DOWDS-SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 201 Newark Rd., Mount Vernon. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at the Apostolic Christian Church, 1635 Old Delaware Rd., Mount Vernon with Bishop Duane Kramer and Pastor L.J. Harry officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2017 in Mound View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Apostolic Christian Church, 1635 Old Delaware Rd., Mount Vernon, OH 43050 or the Selma Markowitz Care Center, 1320 West Main St., 6th Floor, Newark, OH 43055.
