Daniel Mershon Obituary

MERSHON Daniel C. "Toad" Mershon, age 93, of Groveport, Wednesday, February 10, 2010. He was born in New Boston, July 5, 1917, a son of Henry and Mary Ellison Mershon. Moved to Columbus in 1947 and to Groveport in 1950. Worked for Harsey Milling Company. Owned his own gas station, worked for the C&O Railroad as a Stationary Engineer and then worked for Groveport Madison Schools as an engineer. Retired from the school system after 21 years as Supervisor over all non-certified employees of 14 schools. Drove for McDorman Chevrolet after retirement. Married Mildred Lois Maggard in 1937 and she passed away in 1993. Survived by son, Daniel D. (Bobbie) Mershon, Canal Winchester; daughter, JoyceAnn Mershon (Clifford R. Surrell), Wooster; grandchildren, Daniel L. Surrell, Lesley Mershon (Robert Enterman), Tamara Surrell, Renee Mershon Wollerman, Daniel G. (Emily) Mershon; great-grandchildren, Clayton, Lacie and Ava Surrell, MaKayla and Joshua Enterman, Eddie Surrell Church, Danielle and Henry Wollerman, Hannah, Parker, and Logan Mershon. 50 year member of Groveport Lodge #240 F&AM, Good Sam Camping Club, Maverick Camping Club, Groveport Volunteer Fire Department, Groveport United Methodist Church. Veteran U.S. Army. Past member Groveport Lions Club. Preceded in death by brothers Walter, Sherman, William, Ralph and Robert, sisters Harriett Hunter and Elizabeth. Friends may call at the MYERS-WOODYARD FUNERAL HOME, Groveport, Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., where service will be conducted Saturday 10 a.m. Rev. Daniel G. Mershon officiating. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. Masonic service Friday 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to The Ohio Reading for the Blind, 2955 W. Broad St., Columbus, Oh. 43204. By Jerry P. I'm sorry to hear about Dan. When I knew him at Groveport Scools, he was in charge of custodians and then the bus garage. He was a serious and dedicated worker who frequently had "problem students" working with him and working as hard as he inspired them. A good man.
