Daniel McDonnell Obituary
McDonnell, Daniel
Daniel Wayne McDonnell left this Earth to be with his Lord on Thursday, March 29, 2018. Daniel was born October 20, 1951, to the late Gerald Wayne McDonnell and Frankie Marie (Dunford) Bacorn in Columbus; also, preceded in death by his stepfather, William S. Bacorn. Dan was a 1969 graduate of Licking Heights High School and a member of its Alumni Association. He was a member of Pataskala Grace Brethren Church and an avid motorcycle enthusiast. Dan retired in 2007 after 33 years of dedicated service to the State as a machinist for the Ohio Department of Transportation. Perfecting his craft, Dan designed and built numerous and complicated illusions performed over many years by him and his family as Dare to Dream: A Magical Experience around the Central Ohio area. Dan was a DJ, an avid antique train collector, a passionate OSU Football fan, and World's Best Papaw – confirmed by all who saw the love he exuded and joy he experienced when surrounded by his grandchildren, whenever possible. Dan's light shines on in the trainsets he gifted to each new grandchild, and the leaf piles he raked for play at the annual October family gathering; his laugh carries on along the Blue Ridge Parkway, and down the backroads where motorcyclists favor the open breeze. Dan's energy will be ever-present during Buckeye Football games, home and away, though now he watches in anticipation with a better view. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen McDonnell; children, Meghan (Josh) Martin, Matthew (Karina) McDonnell, Mary Beth (Benjamin) Lee, and Rose Molnar; grandchildren, Ayden, Ella, Spencer, Atticus, Grace, Adelyn, Alice, and Annabelle; brothers, Steve, Randall (Kay), Jonathan; sister, Kelli (Gary) McCall; and his beloved dog Beau. A visitation will be held on WEDNESDAY, April 4, 2018 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at PFEIFER FUNERAL HOME, Reynoldsburg. His service will be held at Pataskala Grace Brethren Church, 3517 Headleys Mill Rd SW, on Thursday at 10:00 AM with Pastor Michael Saldivar officiating. Burial to follow at Glen Rest Memorial Estate. The family is asking for flowers or donations can be made to the Urban & Shelley Meyer Fund for Cancer Research. Online condolences to be made at www.pfeiferfuneral.com.
