Donald Charles Hammond, age 84, of Reynoldsburg, passed away at home on August 18, 2017, surrounded by family. Donald was born April 30, 1933 to the late John and Wahneta (Fairchild) Hammond in Columbus. He was a 1951 graduate of Mifflin High School and is a retired MVS driver for the U.S. Postal Service. Donald served in the US Army 3rd Division during the Korean Conflict and was the past president of the Reynoldsburg Lion's Club, member of the Masons, Scottish Rite and Aladdin Shriners. He was a Charter Member of the VFW Post 9473, and the Reynoldsburg Business Association. He was a former member of the Reynoldsburg City Council. Donald owned and operated Don's Barber Shop and City Barber and Styling in Reynoldsburg. He also drove a school bus for Reynoldsburg City Schools. Donald attended Peace Methodist Church in Pickerington. He was a member of the Happy Trails Dance Club, Blacklick Track Club and an avid runner, who competed in countless road races and marathons, including 9 Boston Marathons. Donald is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Dale Hammond; children, Donald (Amanda) Hammond, Dennis (Rebecca) Hammond, Diane (Jeffrey) Dodson; grandchildren, Rachel (Korey) Law, Mark and Jonathan Hammond, Jenna and Josh Dodson, Andrew and Gabrielle Thiede; great-grandchild, Mason James Law; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brothers, William and James Hammond. A visitation will be held on MONDAY, August 21, 2017, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM, at the PFEIFER FUNERAL HOME, Reynoldsburg, where his funeral will follow on Tuesday, 11 AM, with Rev. Barbara Parrot officiating. Burial in the Glen Rest Memorial Estate. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Donald's memory to the National Parkinson Foundation of Ohio.
