A life of kindness, a heart for family, encouragement, and a beautiful smile. Those words describe Dorothy and her life. Born on March 15, 1920, the second of six children to Frank and Edna Lenore Smith of Vincent, Ohio; she died February 7, 2018. Dorothy was married to the love of her life, John Aaron Billman for 56 years until his death in 1997. Two children, Robert John (Nancy) Billman and Anita Louise (David) Boling survive her. Also surviving are grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jon) Ratliff, Christian (Leyla) Billman, Alicia (Bradley) Niceswanger and Erin (Eric) Silverman; and seven great grandchildren. Three sisters, Ruth Trotter of Marietta, Alfreda Rowland of Barlow, and Adeline Anderson of Fleming, Ohio as well as sister-in-law, Myrtie Baker of Dublin, Ohio also survive, in addition to many nieces, nephews and friends. She worked for the L.H. Marshall Company for many years. In retirement, she and John enjoyed their Apple Valley home where they hosted countless family reunions. They were active in Apple Valley activities, the East Knox Lions Club, and the Mulberry Street UMC. They travelled widely with the Allegro Motor Home Club. The last several years Dorothy resided at Abbington of Powell Assisted Living and in her final months at Darby Glen Nursing Center in Hilliard. She was a member of Powell United Methodist Church where she had many friends. Services will be held Monday, February 12, 2018 at Powell United Methodist Church, 825 E. Olentangy Street, Powell, Ohio. Family will receive friends for a visitation at 10am, followed by the Funeral Service at 10:30am. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens, Mt. Vernon, Ohio. The family extends its sincere thanks to the Ohio Health Hospice and the many caregivers who cared for Dorothy during her final illness. Memorial contributions can be made to Powell United Methodist Church, Powell, Ohio.
