Dorothy Jones Obituary
Jones, Dorothy
1931 - 2018
On March 30, 2018, Dorothy Gerhardt Jones left this world peacefully, surrounded by her children. She was preceded in death by her parents Martin Luther and Cozette Ruth (Seneff) Gerhardt, and a brother Wayne Arthur Gerhardt. She is survived by her three sons, Bruce Douglas Jones of Columbia, South Carolina, Brian Keith Jones of Fort Collins, Colorado and Brent Richard Jones of Columbus, Ohio. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Douglas Scott Jones of Yellow Springs, Ohio, Doreen Jones Rinehart of Columbia, South Carolina and Katharine and Brianna Jones of Columbus, Ohio. In addition, she is survived by 5 great grandchildren, Eleanor, Simon, and Colin Rinehart of Columbia, South Carolina and Niamh and Meara Jones-Graham of Yellow Springs, Ohio. Everyone who knew Dorothy was keenly aware that her first priority in life was her family. She will be sorely missed. She had lived in Columbus, Ohio for nearly 50 years. She was an early pioneer in the education of the developmentally disabled, initially in Cambridge Ohio, then for 29 years here in Columbus, Ohio. She brought a devotion for teaching and a love for children to the job. Every child who had the privilege of having her as a teacher was better for it. She also sold Avon for over 30 years, primarily on Columbus' far east side, with a combination of integrity, honesty, humor and generosity. She considered her customers to be her friends and helped many charitable organizations raise funds through sales. Dorothy was the daughter of a Presbyterian minister and was a devoted member of several congregations over the years including Shady Lane Presbyterian Church for the past 50 years. A service of Witness to the Resurrection and Celebration of Life will be held for Dorothy at Fairmoor Presbyterian Church on Saturday, April 21, at 11 a.m., with the Reverend Patricia A. Moats officiating. Memorial gifts in honor of Dorothy may be given to Shady Lane Presbyterian Church, 4117 E. Livingston Avenue, Columbus, Ohio, 43227. Arrangements by EVANS FUNERAL HOME, 4171 E.
