Dorothy M. Spohn (nee McConville), passed away August 5, 2017 peacefully at Twin Towers. She was born December 31, 1929 in Bloomington, Indiana, the daughter of Charles "Chuck" McConville and Martha (Staley) McConville. She married Charles L. Spohn on September 23, 1949 and together they raised two children, Charles David and Steven Michael. She graduated from Wichita State University in 1973 with a BA in education and from Miami University in 1978 with a Masters in Education. She taught at Elda Elementary School in Ross, Ohio for over twenty years, retiring in 1995. As a Second Grade Teacher, she received the Elda Teacher of the Year in 1984-85. She was also a recipient of the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation Scholar Award in 1986, the Southwestern Ohio Special Education certificate of recognition in 1987, and the Golden Apple Achievement Award by Ashland Oil Co. in 1990. She also received the Science Award in 1990-91 and the Service Award To Students from the Ross Local School District in 1995. While at Elda Elementary School, she also directed the yearly Science Invention Fair. After retirement she volunteered as a tutor at Elda Elementary School in Ross and at Weigel Elementary School in Cincinnati. She also participated in enrichment classes for both schools in the Art of Becoming a Clown, teaching students how to mime, put on clown make-up, and how to make people laugh. Teaching students how to learn and how to enjoy the learning process was her most rewarding achievement. In 2010 she was recognized in the 64th Edition of Who's Who in America for her contributions in education.
