Mercer Douglas J. Mercer, 52, passed around 12:30 p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2017, from a rare cancer known as leiomyosarcoma. Doug was born in Wood County, Ohio and grew up in Maumee. His family relocated to Worthington his junior year of high school and he studied photography at The Art Institute in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He returned back to Columbus and opened a wedding photography business. Doug also worked as a buyer for Highlights for Children, McGraw-Hill, School Specialty, State Industrial Products and Xtreme Manufacturing. In 2015, following Doug's dream, he and his wife relocated to beautiful Las Vegas, Nevada. Doug knew no strangers and was a true funny man. He enjoyed sharing the stories of his misadventures or injecting silliness to everyday tasks. He is survived by his wife, Sheila; his son, Joshua Tomlinson, daughter, Jessica; brother, David and wife, Rene; brother, Dennis and wife, Angela; sister, Diana (Stevens) and husband, Michael; nephews Cole, Marcus, Alex, Joel, Tanner, Joshua and Adam; nieces include Brittany, Raelyn and Ashley; Aunt Linda Smith of Bowling Green, Aunt Nancy Karol Shidler and husband, Norm of Gainesville, Florida; Uncle John Mercer and wife, Sandra of Florida and Uncle Roger VanVorhis of Bowling Green, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his father Danny Mercer and mother Patricia (Wenig). A small service will be held at Kingwood Memorial Park on Friday, May 5 at 2:30 p.m. Family and friends are invited to join us in celebrating his life following the service at his brother's home located at 1151 Scarlet Court, Westerville, Ohio 43081.
