Earl "Ed" Mathias Jr. Obituary
Mathias Earl "Ed" Mathias Jr., 83, long-time resident of Bexley, Ohio, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2015. He was born July 4, 1932 in New Philadelphia, Ohio to the late Mary Ellen (Henderson) and Earl Edward Mathias, Sr. Ed was a U.S. Coast Guard Veteran, having served during the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Carol Ann Hamilton on December 21, 1952. She preceded him in death. Ed was a graduate of The Ohio State University and retired from Western-Electric. He enjoyed many years of retirement. Ed was happiest out on the golf course, spending time at the Bexley Library (he was an avid reader) or especially in years past, collecting antiques. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Cary and Ruza Mathias; beloved grandchildren who affectionately called him papa, Kelson (Ali) Mathias, Lily (Brian) Brown and Christina Mathias; brother, Lee (Marilyn) Mathias; sister, Mary Jo (Ted) Lyons; sister-in-law, Joyce Kilgore; nieces, Anne and Kate Kilgore; great-nephew, Gabriel Neff; extended family and friends. A Memorial Service will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2015 at SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, OH 43232, where family will welcome friends one hour prior. Following services, all are invited to attend a reception at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Bonaventure Indian Mission School, PO Box 610, Thoreau, NM, 87323, an organization which Ed and Carol Ann were very passionate about.
